Guys give me some decent apps for step counting. I just want something that can run in the background without 1. Using up all of my battery, and 2. I don't have to constantly turn it off and on. Bonus if it has a few bells and whistles. blink

I like using a wrist fitness tracker. My fit bit (5?) died recently. I'm looking to replace it and interested in what others are using too.

I liked the fitbit because it's small and focused on health/fitness, not an integrated wrist phone and internet device. It syncs with an app. The charge lasts for days. It tracks other health metrics. I didn't monitor all of them, but I noticed that many of them went out-of-range when I got Covid a few years ago before I even had symptoms.

I go hikiing, sometimes alone and in areas without cell coverage, and considered getting something with an emergency gps sender. Maybe I'll just get a separate device. Someone, maybe my brother, also told me that 911 and law enforcement can track your cell even in some cases when you can't make a call.

I just carry my iphone with me. It does a good job, and provides music :-) And I don’t have to turn it on or anything. Seems reasonably accurate.

Bearly Breathing. What app on your phone is running already? That's exactly why I want to have an app versus an Apple Watch or Fitbit, because I want to track all of my steps and often forget to carry extra stuff. I always have mybphine in me and rarely forget it.
KD5551, I dont want anything extra, just an app for my phone. Thank you anyway. I have an old fitbit, never used it. It's sitting in my junk drawer. I dont even know if it still works. laugh

StillLivin - It's the Fitness app that comes already loaded your iPhone. It looks like a multi-color target.

I use the step counter under the Health app on my iPhone. It’s a white background with a red heart on it. And tracks how many steps you take as well as the distance. I like it because my phone goes pretty much anywhere I go so any incidental walking that I do around parking lots or stores or whatever also gets tracked

Funny story - I'm taking a West African djembe hand drum class once a week. Without fail, during class I'll get a notification on my Apple Watch that asks me if I'm doing an elliptical workout! I always dismiss it, because I want to be honest with my activity level, but I am sort of curious about how it would register!

(I also get a few notifications that says the decibel level is high and to take precautions!!)
