About a decade ago, my niece went "missing." That's all I can really divulge then and now because it is an ongoing investigation.
However, I wanted to give somewhat of an update for the people that showed so much support.
Three people have been arrested and are awaiting sentencing and trial for her murder. There is still one more who needs to be charged, but this feels like a small measure of justice.
They have walked free every day knowing what they did to her.
We, her loved ones, both friends and family, have had to swallow that injustice for a decade knowing it was foul play and that they had zero remorse.
When they are convicted, I will share more details.
Thank you to all who showed their support in those painful early days. Whether it was by posting a message or by the ones who reached out to me privately. You all have no idea how hard that time was or how much it meant to me to have that online Army at my back.
Update in the last comment.

What a terrible situation but I am glad you all are getting some peace and closure and sense of justice.
I imagine this also brings all the feelings up again, so it is both painful and a relief at the same time.
Be good to yourself as you navigate all this. And celebrate this small victory.

Thank you BB. Yes, it does hit buried grief, but it's much better than continuing to watch her murderers walk free. The hardest part is dealing with the fact that she will never come back. But we have been sent s9 much love and prayers over the years by loved ones close by too Thank you

I remember this. It doesn’t seem like 10 years have passed. I can only imagine that in some ways it feels like yesterday and others an entire lifetime has gone by.
I hope they receive the justice that is deserved and you all are able to find a small measure of peace. 🕊️🤍

I’m sorry for your loss and the time you have spent not having the responsible people arrested and convicted.
We had a similar case in my town but fortunately for the family the teen’s body was found a few weeks later after missing. There are 2 more unsolved deaths of teen girls from the same area with no bodies but plenty of suspicion.
I pray you find some peace.

Every year around the time she was murdered, I would spiral back into depression knowing they walked free and one was even thriving. I think, now, as the years go by, I will be a little more at peace. They haven't gone to trial, but they have been indicted, so that will be less burden for the FBI and prosecuting attorney to prove their cases against them. The one still walking free, there isn't yet enough evidence to arrest him. But who knows which of the three will crack first when offered a plea. So, we wait with fingers crossed.
My poor sister was out of the country at the time and only found out through social media that her child was even "missing." It was a complete horror show for many months.
I always thought no pain would ever surpass my time in the betrayal that brought me here until that happened. I have sadly learned that there are even worse traumas in life. Not that it is a competition, because it is all still painful. But I have also learned that with support a person can get through anything.
When the trials are all concluded, I will be more forthcoming with a better update. For now, I just needed to express my gratitude.

Wow. I have been waiting for an update for so long. This wasn't the one I wanted to hear.
I could never understand why more wasn't done and how life just went on without any answers. Glad something is finally getting done. Thank you for sharing this update. ♥

Praise Him. One trial down so far. One of them will die in prison. A few more trials to go but the rest, so far took a plea. I am so grateful to law enforcement and tye FBI for making this quick. I am very well aware that this could have dragged on for years.
Little Turtle and Shehawk, thank you for your thoughtful and kind words.

I’m glad you and your family get closure.
I don’t recall the original story. Do you know where her remains are?
I can share that a close relative fell overboard at sea and despite an intensive search his body wasn’t found. Nearly a year later his remains were found in a cove hundreds of miles away – recognized using dental x-rays. I know that for his family, relatives and friends the closure of having a body to bury and a gravesite to visit offered a lot of closure and comfort.

Glad it is moving quickly (for our justice system anyway). Hopefully healing will be able to move on once this chapter is closed for good and you never have to worry about these creeps again.

@Bigger,
Until they are all incarcerated, I cant share too many details. My niece went "missing" over 10 years ago. We knew she wasn't just missing. We also had a very good idea who at least one of the murderers was. All that have been arrested so far are taking a plea and finally, now, cooperating. The FBI and other legal departments are now searching where she was placed. However, there have been floods and major hurricanes, so her remains have not yet been found. It's been less than 30 days of searching the lake and surrounding area, so we are still hoping she can be found eventually.
@BearlyBreathing
It sucks that 2 of the 3 arrested are out on bail. They get to be home with their family while my niece will never come home again. But I am confident they will do jail time. The main person will die in prison because they are already in their 60s. The other 2 will probably get a much lighter sentence. However, the whole community supports the rest of our family and have ostracized them. Even when they get out, it will be a lifetime sentence. Where they are, it's a very small and tight-knit community. Everyone either knows everyone or are related.

Update:
One of the murderers took a plea and received 25 years. Part of the plea was that they had to give all details about her murder and the location of where they put her body. The other murderer died a few years ago, I think heart attack. Of the 2 that were accessories after the fact, both also took pleas. Part of the plea is that they had to give all details of their parts in the cover up and their complete involvement. One of them didn't really have much to do, burned some evidence basically. Both received felony convictions on their records for all charges. They are now walking free. As for the family member, there wasn't any evidence that he took part in any of it, but he knew what they did and never came forward.
I am still processing everything and I am not really sure how outraged I am about the ones walking free and the one who died before he received justice.
We have all the details. I wont share the specifics. She suffered. She fought hard and didn't die quickly. This is the part that broke me. It's going to be a while before I am OK again.
Presently, various agencies are dragging the body of water where she was placed. But it has been over a decade now, and many natural events have taken place and realistically, we may never find a body. If you believe in prayer, pray for her and the family.

Oh wow…
I want to offer you something to contemplate in order to find peace. I hope this doesn’t come over as dismissive, but it is something I try to live by.
We live in a civilized society. We can argue over how civilized, but fundamentally we live by law. This means that someone down the road can’t come into my house and eat from my fridge simply because they are stronger or bigger than I am. Just like I can’t take my neighbors new BMW simply because I want it. We are both tied and protected by laws our society sets us.
In older societies justice was based on revenge. If someone killed your uncle over a dispute over sheep, you were entitled and expected to go kill someone of comparable stature in that clan. If you were weaker than the other clan, they could simply do what they wanted.
To deal with that, we have created a system where we have the expectation of being protected by the law, but have sacrificed the "right" to revenge. That person didn’t get 25 years to satisfy you, but rather 25 years for breaking societies rules and laws.
You can be of the view that 25 is not enough, that this is unfair or whatever, but just remember that it’s not your call… You forfeit the right to revenge for a society that took the time to investigage, prosecute and sentence the b%%%%rds that did this.
I hope they find her, and that you and your family find peace in knowing where to visit her.
I am so sorry you were all put through this.

(((((StillLivin))))) sending big virtual hugs. The two walking free is infuriating. I hope that the felony on their records means they are scrubbing toilets for the rest of their lives and never experience comfort or security. And the family member? Ugh. I just can’t imagine how that feels.
I am sorry that it worked out this way but glad you all get the knowledge of what happened. And I hope you find her remains. And I hope you can finally start healing in earnest and find peace in this outcome. Truly sending you the strongest caring right now.

All, thank you.
For the person who got 25 years, they will die in prison. That gives me comfort. I HATE that POS and wish a miserable life and death in prison for them. So I am happy with the outcome. As for the 2 who are now walking free, the youngest was a kid when all of this happened and didn't really have much involvement with the cover up, I think justice was served with him. But for other other accessory after the fact, the only comfort I get is that he will continue to make horrible life choices (by looking at his track record thus far), and will eventually get his. Yeah, it passes me off that he is walking free still when my niece will never come back. The other two make my blood boil.
Like I said in a previous post, life won't be easy for them, though. It's a very small community. Small wins I guess.
We have answers. There was no way those answers weren't going to be painful. I just wish I could hold our little princess one more time and tell her how much she was loved.
Again, thank you all for your support. It does help.
